Can we have more than 1 club leader assigned to manage a club?

At this time, all Cyber Discovery clubs are restricted to be managed by a one club leader.

How do I get students to join my club?

To have students join your club, sign in to your club leader Cyber Discovery account. Click on the "Your students" link near the top of the page, then look for the "Manage club access code" link underneath the welcome image on this page.

This page will let you generate a club access code, which you can share with your students in any way that best suits you: via a slideshow presentation or on a board in your classroom, in an email to students, over an announcement, or any other way that works best for you.

Students who want to join or change clubs can do so by signing in to their own Cyber Discovery dashboard and looking for the join/change my club link at the very top of their timeline. From this page, they can use your club access code to join your club. Once they have joined your club and completed registration for this year's programme, you will see them on your student list.

Last year joining a club worked differently, does the old way still work?

After receiving a lot of feedback on the previous way students joined clubs and club leader managed clubs, we updated the club system to make things quite a bit easier and faster for everyone, and we've received a lot of positive feedback that the new system requires a lot less overhead for teachers and is much less prone to error, such as typos in student emails. We've transitioned the Cyber Discovery system to only use this newer, much easier club management system, and retired the previous system.

If you had any outstanding invites that hadn't yet been accepted, those invites have been invalidated. Simply give those students your club access code and they should be able to join your club right away.

The students I want to join my club are part of the Virtual Cyber School, can I see them in my club too?

If a Virtual Cyber School student wants to also join Cyber Discovery, they absolutely can! However, since they are 2 different programmes the student will have to sign up to Cyber Discovery with a different email address from the one they used in the Virtual Cyber School, and will be starting a completely new account. Make sure your students who want to join Cyber Discovery are signing up at the joincyberdiscovery.com domain, which is different from the Virtual Cyber School domain of joincyberstart.com.

Can my students who participated in the Virtual Cyber School pick up their CyberStart Game progress in Cyber Discovery?

Because the programmes are different and you will be using different accounts, student progress and scores in the Virtual Cyber School cannot be shared with Cyber Discovery. This is because Cyber Discovery includes multiple learning phases with even more content than the Virtual Learning School - and there is a competitive element to Cyber Discovery, with top-scoring participants qualifying for life changing opportunities and resources.

How will I know if my students are selected to move on to CyberStart Game?

In your Cyber Discovery club leader dashboard, click on "Programme stages", then click on the blue "Game" tab. If you scroll down you'll be able to see which of your students have been invited to CyberStart Game, including if they've registered for Game yet and, if so, how far into Game they are.

I see a message saying you are running a safeguarding check on my account. What does that mean?

We take the safety of our students seriously, and the Cyber Discovery team runs safeguarding checks on all club leaders who register for this year of Cyber Discovery. This includes both new and returning club leaders, even if you cleared the safeguarding checks last year. For the safety of our students, we are re-checking all club leaders previous granted access.

If your account clears our initial round of checks you should receive an email within 24 hours indicating you've been granted full access to the club management functionality within the Dashboard. In a situation where we need to do further follow up with you, you'll receive an email from our team from safeguarding@joincyberdiscovery.com to help accelerate you through the safeguarding checks.

Make sure you check your spam and junk mail for our emails. If you haven't heard from any of the Cyber Discovery team within 48 hours of registering for this year's programme, please email into safeguarding@joincyberdiscovery.

I underwent a successful safeguarding check last year, why do I have to do another one?

To safeguard our students, the Cyber Discovery team runs routine safeguarding checks on all registered club leaders every year. The initial check is usually done within 24 hours, and most of our club leaders gain access to the full club management functionality of Cyber Discovery within a day of signing up.

What domains need to be whitelisted?

All subdomains on joincyberdiscovery.com and cyberprotection.agency should be whitelisted.

For students who advance to CyberStart Game, the following domains will need to be whitelisted as they are used in challenges:

  • www.bondogge.com
  • www.bulldoghax.com
  • www.chiquitooenterprise.com
  • www.jiaozi-restaurants.com
  • www.slowlaneshipping.com
  • www.wespeektogether.com

Additionally, your school will need to allow Google's recaptcha API to run. Information on recaptcha and firewalls can be found here:

It is not possible to bypass or "turn off" the recaptcha as it is a protective security mechanism for our applications.

My school's system doesn't allow your emails through, is there an alternate way to create an account without an email?

All club leaders and students must have a unique email tied to their account in Cyber Discovery, and they must be able to receive emails from our applications. This allows us to verify our users, allows users to recover lost passwords safely, and allows us to notify students if and when they've been invited to future stages of the programme.

The email opt-in and verification process is also used as a form of consent to participate in the program in addition to being important for privacy and identity validation.

If your school's email won't allow our emails through, we suggest having your students create single-purpose accounts for use with Cyber Discovery through a free email service such as Gmail. All emails for Cyber Discovery come from the joincyberdiscovery.com domain.

How do I get the verification email re-sent after we have unblocked your email?

You can re-request a verification email using the forgot password form. If you have't yet finished registration and you use this form, it will re-send the verification email so you can complete your registration.

I have a student in my class who is younger/older than the others and is outside your eligibility criteria, can they participate?

Students younger and older than our cutoff are not eligible to participate in the programme. In particular, we cannot allow students younger than 13 to participate as they are below the legal age that allows them to consent to sign up for online applications.
